One year anniversary!!

I know this was about 3 1/2 months ago, but I'm a bad blogger so you'll just have to bear with me! It's true, Mac and I have been married a year (a little over that now!) And it has been wonderful. People are always telling us that the first year is the hardest or that the first 5 years are the hardest, I don't buy it. Of course we had a few rough patches but nothing enough to constitute our entire year as being hard. Through it all I did learn a few things about my wonderful husband, some I already knew that have been reaffirmed and others that are completely new:
  1. Mac is a wonderful cook! This I already knew but every time he makes something it is always delicious and I don't know how he knows to put what spices and flavors together. He just pulls things out of thin air it seems like. For example, the other day we decided we wanted some chocolate chip cookies so we buy the chocolate and come home, well, we forgot the baking soda (I think, one of the baking things) and he just threw in the ingredients, without measuring and the cookies actually turned out good. The texture was a little caky but they were still good with a glass of milk. =-)
  2. I hate making decisions, even the little ones like what do I want for dinner, and it drives Mac crazy. He's come to completely loath the phrases, "I don't know" and "I don't care." I'm trying to do better, but I think Mac might be crazy before too long.
  3. Mac has a lot of hobbies! I never knew someone could have so many things that they want to do or are currently pursuing, to name a few: fly tying, fly rod building, saddle making, making spurs, fly fishing or any fishing for that matter, bow and rifle hunting, cooking, learn to play the guitar, record some music, aspiring photographer...just to name a few.
I could keep listing things that I have learned through a year of marriage but it could get quite lengthy. The most important thing is that we made it through our first year and it was amazing, I wouldn't want my life any other way, unless there was a baby of course! ;-) But here are some pictures of us eating our wedding cake top...

It looks the same as it did a year ago!

How I know I'm in love...

I know I'm in love, I really do, but last night I had an interesting reaffirmation of how much I love my wonderful husband.

Mac and I got home from school and work last night, fixed ourselves some dinner and started watching "A League of Their Own". My dad had just started it right before we got home and it's a great movie so we didn't change the channel.

I don't think I have ever cried anywhere in that movie in my entire life until last night. It was the part in the middle where the war telegram guy comes in to the locker room before their game to deliver the telegram saying one of their husbands was killed. Well, he can't find the name of the woman he's supposed to deliver it to. So, the coach (Tom Hanks) takes it from him and finds out for himself. (Since I have scene this movie several times, I already know what's going to happen and so the tears are already welling up.) He slowly walks down the line of woman and almost stopps at one of the main characters but passes her by and goes the next woman. She immediately begins to cry as she realizes her husband won't be returning home.

By this time tears are streaming down my face as it moves to the next scene. The main character, Dottie, is in her room crying, thinking about her husband and that she hasn't heard from him and all of the sudden, a knock and in comes her husband. She cries even harder, as do I, and she asks, "Can we just hold each other for the rest of our lives?"

I know kinda sad and sappy but I couldn't help it. I turn to Mac with tears trickling down my cheeks and say, "See what you did to me. I've never cried in this movie before." He just laughed and gave me a big hug and a kiss on the forehead.

So, the point of my post...I love Mac SO much. I have never cried at that point of the movie because I don't think I fully understood the powerful connection there is between a husband and wife. And now that I am a wife, just the thought of Mac not coming home, from anything let alone from fighting in a war, is both heartwrenching and terrifying.

Anyways, I thought it was kind of a cute experience and maybe it's just because it was me but I it's the little things that make life (and marriage) big!

A little update...

Once again it has been some time since I have posted on our blog. Please accept my sincere apologies. ;) As always things have been a little crazy around here and blogging still hasn't made it to the top of my list, but I have about an hour to kill until my next class so I thought a little update was in order.

Mac got a job working at the golf course which was a huge relief on our finances and on my stress level, not to mention a very helpful tax return. He seems to like it and I think he's played more golf in the last month than he has in the last two years combined. I'm still working at the bank and am currently training my replacement. She's really nice and I think she'll do well. Unfortunately for me, but fortunately for the bank, she is a fast learner. So whenever she is at the bank she uses my drawer since that's the one she'll be working out of. Because of this I get to sit around and do nothing. I do homework if I have it and finals are coming up but you can only study so much. Nights are the worst because its just the two of us and she helps all the customers so she gets as much practice as possible. So once again I find myself sitting around twiddling my thumbs. It's unfortunate now but I am grateful that the people I work for are more than willing to give me my job back when we get back from Alaska.

Speaking of Alaska! Only two more weeks until we take off for our wonderful summer "job". Mac talked to Mel and Sharon the other day and told them that we take our last test on the 14th and they promptly replied with, "so can you leave on the 15th?" Technically we could but we have made plans to go to Spokane for a stake temple day. So it looks like we will be leaving sometime after the 16th! I'm definitely looking forward to it. It will be so nice spending my mornings and part of the afternoon fishing next to Mac and just enjoying each others company. And then working with each other. It's basically a 2nd honeymoon and I can't wait!!

In other news....My parents are moving to Utah. My dad got a job as the Mohawk flooring representative down there and so they are beginning the craziness of getting the house ready to sell and sorting through everything to pack and getting ready for the big move. Right now they're working on staining all the new trim and base pieces but the weather hasn't been cooperating so they've been staining it inside and I'm pretty sure the smell will never dissipate. I'm excited for them to move but unfortunately that means that we have to pack all of our stuff that we're not taking with us to Alaska and find a place for it. The only bright side is that maybe I'll get rid of some of our junk that we don't use anymore! (keep your fingers crossed for me!)

So, Mac is on this crazy diet right now. I was a little concerned about it because he only gets about 500 calories per day and he can only eat certain foods which has extreme potential for grouchiness. Thankfully he hasn't been too groughy. He has definitely had his moments but all in all he has been wonderful. Since he started his diet he hasn't really been able to cook like he likes to. So the other day he called me at work and the first thing he says, "Can I cook for you tonight?" Now tell me, what wife in her right mind would turn down the opportunity of not cooking? Granted I don't cook a whole bunch because Mac likes it more than I do but still, I was excited! Of course I submitted to his request and had an amazing grilled pork tenderloin, that he basted with some kind of glaze, a vegetable stock risotto and fresh green beans. It was delicious! Needless to say he is probably the best husband ever!
